- [Dr. Andrea Faught](https://www.rideauwildlife.org/dr-andrea-faught/): Dr. Andrea Faught is a full-time physician in the Geriatric Rehabilitation Program and the Stroke Program at Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa. Dr. Faught is the former President and Vice-President of the Medical Staff. She was a long-standing member of the Medical Advisory Committee and was previously Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She joined Bruyère as a family physician in 2001, and in addition to providing inpatient care, she contributes to the ongoing education of medical students and residents. From 1992 to 2001, Dr. Faught practised Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the Trenton Memorial Hospital. Dr. Faught brings a wealth of experience in medicine and board experience to RVWS.

- [Repairs and Maintenance](https://www.rideauwildlife.org/repairs-and-maintenance/): Repairs and maintenance volunteers play an important role by helping to maintain our wildlife centre caging and grounds. As handypersons, maintenance volunteers help with general repairs, carpentry, painting or landscaping. More experienced volunteers also help with minor electrical and plumbing needs. Maintenance volunteers can also participate on larger construction and cage building projects as needed.
- [Cage Builder](https://www.rideauwildlife.org/cage-builder/): Cage building volunteers play a vital role by helping to build outdoor enclosures where wildlife get accustomed to the environment, and learn important climbing and foraging skills. Everyone is welcome to apply as there are plenty of jobs for all skill levels. Cage building projects usually occur on several weekends during the year, and involve half-day, full-day or multi-day projects. All volunteers will receive a personalized tour of the rehabilitation centre where they will be able to see wildlife being fed behind one-way viewing windows. Cage building days include a barbeque lunch and drinks. Cage building days make for great group projects.
- [Release Site Provider](https://www.rideauwildlife.org/release-site-provider/): Release site providers play a vital role by giving wildlife a second chance back in the wild. Wildlife must be released on private property with the owner’s permission. At release time, wildlife are used to the environment, have the skills to survive in the wild, and are naturally fearful of humans.
- [Driver](https://www.rideauwildlife.org/driver/): Our volunteer drivers help with essential transportation of wildlife and supplies from the Ottawa area to the Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in North Gower. Wildlife are secured in carriers so animal handling is not required. For those who are willing to drive longer distances, it also involves transferring wildlife patients between other wildlife rehabilitators in Ontario. Dedicated volunteers also have the opportunity to help release animals back to the wild.
- [Animal Care Assistant](https://www.rideauwildlife.org/animal-care-assistant/): Animal care assistants play a vital role in helping to give wildlife a second chance at life in the wild. Volunteers feed and care for orphaned wildlife at the sanctuary and help with other supportive duties such as laundry, dishwashing and cage cleaning. As a position that is vital to the highest quality of animal care, volunteers must commit to a regular, weekly four-hour shift for a minimum of four months between April and October.

Before disturbing them, observe from a distance to see if the mother is indeed watching over them. If the kits are energetic and healthy, leave them alone and monitor them from a distance.

The stress of captivity and human handling can be quite detrimental, and success rates are typically <20%. Letting mother take care of them naturally is their best chance at survival.
